This European Standard covers three-phase power transformers from 5 kVA up to 40 000 kVA for indoor or outdoor continuous service, 50 Hz with two windings, with a highest voltage for equipment [1,1 kV ≤ Um ≤ 36 kV] and at least one of the windings having a highest voltage for equipment not below [3,6 kV].
NOTE 1 Transformers with tap changer (DETC or OLTC) are included in this European Standard even if they have separate winding to make the taps.
NOTE 2 This European Standard applies also for rated voltages less than 36kV where the highest voltage for equipment is 38,5 kV. The requirement are those for Um= 36kV.
The object of this European Standard is to lay down requirements related to electrical characteristics and design of three-phase medium power transformers.
The following transformers are excluded from this European Standard:
- transformers, which have no windings with highest voltage for equipment (Um) higher than 1,1 kV;
- instrument transformers;
- tractions transformers mounted on rolling stock;
- starting transformers;
- testing transformers;
- welding transformers;
- transformers for deep water submerged application;
- medium Voltage (MV) to Medium Voltage (MV) interface transformers up to 5 MVA;
- transformers for converter applications;
- transformers for furnace applications;
- transformers for offshore applications and floating offshore applications;
- transformers for emergency installations;
- transformers and auto-transformers for railway feeding systems;
- earthing transformers;
- explosion-proof and underground mining transformers.
