History

2017

On 1st August, by reorganizing the limited liability company "Standardization, Accreditation and Metrology Center", the limited liability company "Latvijas standarts" was established.

2015

On 1st January, the Latvian Standard becomes a full member of ISO.

2009

On 29th May, The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia adopted the Decree No. 351. According to this decree the Latvian Standard Ltd. takes over the Metrology and Accreditation State Agency and gets a new name – Standardization, Accreditation and Metrology Centre Ltd.

Standardization, Accreditation and Metrology Centre Ltd. starts to operate on 1st July.

2004

On 1st January, the Latvian Standard Ltd. becomes a full member of CEN and CENELEC.

2003

Latvian Standard Ltd. and ETSI signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The national program "Development of Standardization in Latvia" has been accomplished:
- passed the Law of Standardization
- founded the National Institution of Standardization
- adapted the existing CEN/CENELEC standards
- standards development process aligned with EU requirements

1999

In January, the Latvian Standard Ltd. started to operate as a non-profit organization.

1998

On 24th March, the National Standardization Council bylaw has been confirmed by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia in the regulation No. 105. The Council is a collegial advisory body which was established to promote the development of standardization.

On 30th June, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia accepted the national program "Development of Standardization in Latvia". The program aims to manage standards development process according to the Latvian economy needs and requirements of the European Union. The program provides Latvian standardization system integrated into a single European Union standardization system. According to the program Latvian national standardization organization has to become a full-fledged member of the European standardization organizations CEN and CENELEC.

On 14th October, Latvian Parliament (Saeima) adopted the law of standardization. The adoption of the law is one of the most significant events in the field of standardization development in Latvia. The law defines standardization governing principles, tasks, organizational system and funding arrangements.

On 29th December, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia adopted regulation No. 630 of foundations of the National standardization body "Latvian Standard" (LVS). "Latvian Standard" took over the rights and obligations of the Latvian National Standardisation and Metrology Centre in the field of standardization.

1995

On 8th August, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia adopts the concept of the Latvian national standardization development system defining unified standardization basic principles. This concept outlines the most important stages of the standardization system development.

Latvia becomes a corresponding member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and an affiliated member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).

1994

On 2nd November, the first Latvian Standardization Technical Committee LVS/STK 1 "Heat, water and gas technologies" has been registered.

1991

On 4th December, The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia adopted the Decree No. 522 of foundation of the Latvian National Standardization and Metrology Centre as a state enterprise.
