This European Standard specifies requirements, assessment methods, compliance criteria and a designation system for push-fit fittings for the purpose of joining tubes of copper, plated copper, multilayer pipes and plastics pipes. The fitting ends have a size range from 6 mm to 54 mm. The fittings are designed for a service lifetime up to fifty years.
This European Standard is applicable to push-fit fittings for joining one or more of the following tubes or pipes:
copper tubes to EN 1057;
polypropylene (PP) to EN ISO 15874-2
cross-linked polyethylene (PE-X) to EN ISO 15875-2;
polybutylene (PB) to EN ISO 15876-2;
multilayer (ML) to ISO 17484-1;
multilayer (ML) to EN ISO 21003-2.
polyethylene of raised temperature resistance (PE-RT) to EN ISO 22391-2.
polyethylene (PE) to EN 1555;
polyethylene to EN 12201;
polyvinyl chloride (PVC-C) to EN 15015;
Fittings may be suitable for joining other tubes and pipes provided the push-fit joint with the specified tube or pipe meets the requirements of this standard.
Details of applications and classes of service conditions are specified in the relevant plastics piping systems standards.
This European Standard applies to fittings made of materials listed in CEN/TS 13388.
Adaptor fittings may combine push-fit ends with fitting ends defined in the other parts of EN 1254.
Press fittings for metallic tubes may also have flanged end connections according to EN 1092-3.
Push-fit fittings may also have a plated or other decorative surface coating.
Products covered by this standard are intended to be used in liquid applications:
hot or cold or combined hot and cold water systems;
heating and cooling systems;
drainage systems;
sprinkler systems.
The fittings are intended to be used up to the operating temperatures and maximum operating pressures as indicated in Annex A according to the intended use.
The operating temperature and maximum pressures for the assembled joint are related to the multilayer or plastics pipe material performance, details of which are specified in the relevant multilayer or plastics piping systems standards.
