Project No.-
TitleERTMS includes trackside boards to be used for both ETCS and GSM-R. ERA Operational Harmonisation WP has delivered as a starting point the list of all signalling icons to be transferred into trackside marker boards. This list could be extended in the future by the ERA. The standard defines requirements to ensure the following. The driver must be able to observe signals and trackside boards, and they must be observable by the driver from his normal driving position. Trackside markers, signs and information boards must be designed in such a consistent way to facilitate this. Issues that must be taken into account shall include: - that they are suitably sited so that train headlights allow the driver to read the information, - suitability and intensity of lighting, where required to illuminate the information, - where retro-reflectivity is employed, the reflective properties of the material used are in compliance with appropriate specifications and the signs are fabricated so that train front lights easily allow the driver to read the information. The trackside boards in Part 2 of the standard dealing with ETCS track conditions shall be, as far as applicable, the same as the symbols already defined by the ETCS DMI specifications. They could be adjusted due to trackside board constraints (e.g. manufacturing, assessment, environmental condition, perceptibility constraints).
