Project No.-
TitleThis document specifies the assessment of the running characteristics of conventional urban rail vehicles on different track gauges. It is applicable to the homologation of metros, tram-train and tram vehicles. The assessment of running characteristics applies to vehicles which: - are newly developed; - have had relevant design modifications; or - have relevant changes in their operating conditions. This document specifies the following safety objectives: - adhere to kinematic constraints due to vehicle kinematics and track alignment; - safety against static flange climbing derailment in twisted track; - safety against dynamic flange climbing derailment in change of curvature; - safety against lateral shifting of the track; - running stability. This document also gives guidance on how vehicle acceptance can be transferred to a different network, with comparable vehicle and network parameters. Purely geometrical issues of the guidance in switches and crossings as well as ride comfort are outside the scope of this document. This document does not apply to non-conventional urban rail such as mono-rails, maglev, cable cars, rack railway or rubber tyred systems.
