This technical report gives a framework for how to integrate and promote long-term thinking in building design and sustainability Assessment. The technical report aims provide guidance on how to extend the boundaries of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) for buildings, building elements and technical equipments for multiple life cycles.
The technical report aims to contribute to a more sustainable development by extending the service life of buildings.
This will maintain and improve the economic and social value of buildings.
The technical report gives guidance:
- consequences for lifecycle planning and assessment
- technical characteristics to be considered
- lifespan predictions and functions for buildings, building elements and technical equipments
- durability and adaptability in building design
- economic implications
This approach should be used for new and existing buildings.
