About LVS

Latvian standard

The Latvian national standardisation body Latvian Standard (LVS) was founded on January 5, 1999, according to the Standardization Law. LVS carries out its specific functions acting according to its respective law and having its own budget.

The main functions of LVS are:

  • to organize development of the Latvian national standards in standardization technical committees,
  • to adapt all the standards published by European standardization bodies and international standards that are essential for the national economy,
  • to ensure a stock formation of standards and related documents, the stock maintenance and supplement, as well as information dissemination of standardization field,
  • to participate in the work of international and regional standardization bodies.

International relations

LVS represents Latvia in European and international standardization bodies:

  • Full member of European Committee for Standardization (CEN)
  • Full member of European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC)
  • Full member of International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
  • Associate member of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)

LVS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Sales Agreement with European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
