This application guide is an help in the use of EN 50122-1, EN 50122-2, HD 367,HD 384 for the design and the construction of: - Traction lines which are in one or more of the following conditions: lines in tunnels of underground or tramway type; lines on viaduct; lines on reinforced concrete platforms; lines adjacent to passenger stations or to repair/maintenance works or warehouses; lines in trenches protected by structures as above; lines in strict contact with buildings made with reinforced concrete or metallic structures. - Metallic or reinforced concrete structures running parallel to the traction lines for lengths sufficiently extended. - Fixed plants for railway applications being part of d.c. systems, as lines or substations adjacent to said lines. This part 1 is applicable to tramway, underground and suburban systems having as nominal voltage of the contact line up to 1500 V, excluding main railway lines. Part 2 (in study) applies to main railway lines and to lines exceeding 1500 V. The application guide analyses a number of problems and gives some suggestions for new plants concerning the protection from stray currents (EN 50122-2) in conjunction with the protection against touch risks, both of persons and of electrical plants (EN 50122-2, HD 637, HD 384). In addition are recalled construction criteria to fulfil EN 50122-1.
