This Standard specifies requirements and test methods for uncontrolled door closing devices, such devices being intended for fitting either singly, in multiples, or in combination with hinges. The Scope is limited to manually-operated, uncontrolled door closing devices for internal pedestrian door sets with single door leafs and with single action function. The energy for closing is generated by the user upon opening the door to at least 30 °, such that when the door is released, it returns to a closed position in an uncontrolled manner. NOTE 1 Controlled door closing devices are covered by EN 1154. Design samples in accordance with EN 1154. Annex C, Figure C1 are not considered as being uncontrolled door closing devices. NOTE 2 Design samples of uncontrolled door closing devices are shown in Annex F. Uncontrolled door closing devices with double action function are excluded from the scope of this Standard. This Standard also covers uncontrolled door closing devices which contain simple damping mechanisms without provision for adjusting (e.g. valves) the closing speed of the door leaf. This Standard also covers uncontrolled door closing devices incorporated in single axis hinges where, in addition to providing a closing function, the devices may also support the door leaf. Such spring hinges may be either load bearing or non-load bearing. Uncontrolled door closing devices manufactured in accordance with this Standard are recommended for use only on doors up to 1000 mm in width and 80 kg in mass and where users are expected to take care during operation. Uncontrolled door closing devices are intended for use on doors in buildings where there is a low frequency of use by people with a high incentive to exercise care and with a small chance of accidents occurring or misuse (e.g. domestic, housing or other living areas). The application of uncontrolled door closing devices manufactured in accordance with this Standard may be limited by national legislation.
