This technical report collects practices developed in CEN Member countries to increase the contributions of earthworks to sustainable development, both at the stage of earth-structure design and during the execution of works.
It considers major objectives, such as:
- the adaptation to climate changes,
- the limitation of emitted Green House Gases,
- the preservation of Nature: water, topsoil, biodiversity, pollutions, preservation of mineral natural resources,
- the limitation of earthworks impacts during construction,
- the resilience of earth-structures,
- the use of alternative materials or re-use of site materials.
All these environmental questions must be answered with respect to existing laws, standards and other good practice rules.
