The standard specifies methods for the measurement under laboratory conditions of the airborne sound power of equipment as well as the measurement of the equipment quantities required to calculate the structure borne sound power injected into any receiving building structure on which the equipment is mounted; these powers are the input data of EN 12354-5, which predicts sound levels due to service equipment in buildings. The standard also considers the particular case of heavy homogeneous receiving building structures, for which the method greatly simplifies and leads to a possible link to EN 12354-2 to predict sound levels in buildings.
