Scope of the adopted ISO/NP 19488:
This intended International/European Standard will provide an acoustic classification scheme for dwellings to serve as a
basis for recommendations for enhanced sound insulation between rooms in the sense of privacy and higher comfort in
buildings with dwellings or housing-similar rooms, which serve completely or partly as occupied rooms for people. It has to
be discussed wheter the specification of the lowest requiered protection level resulting from the specification of higher
levels should be specified at national or international level. Time periods for the market and the industry to adopt the new
standards have to be considered.
The characteristic values of this Standard apply to the protection against:
- airborne sound and impact sound from other rooms (e.g. neighbour dwellings), which arise from their intended use,
- noises from technical building equipment which are not installed in the own area as well as from commercial, trade and
industrial companies in the same or in structurally associated buildings,
- external noise, e.g. traffic noise and noise from commercial, trade and industrial companies, which are not structurally
connected with the occupied rooms needing protection,
- airborne sound and impact sound within the own area
and form the basis for building constructions for new buildings as well as for structural changes at existent buildings.
