This European Standard specifies health and safety requirements for guards installed on all types of cranes. These guards are provided: a) primarily for protection of persons from mechanical hazards; b) to protect against exposure of persons to non mechanical hazards. The requirements covered include both fixed and movable guards. The rigging and erection of a crane shall be taken into account when deciding on the type of guard to be used. Specific requirements for guards on particular types of crane are given in the appropriate European Standard for the particular crane type.
