This PWI (for European Technical Specification) applies to the ventilative cooling system design, dimensioning, energy performance assessment and implementation of ventilative cooling systems. The purpose of ventilative cooling systems is reducing cooling loads and preventing/reducing overheating. This PWI is applicable to buildings specified according to the thermal indoor environmental aspects used for human occupancy where production processes don’t have a major impact on indoor environment.
The guidance for design given in this PWI are applicable to natural or mechanical ventilative cooling systems and strategies and a combination of these systems.
Ventilative cooling is an air system that cools a building taking ventilation air from outside at its actual
temperature and humidity and should not have any mechanical pre-cooling. Interaction with supplementary
cooling systems to ventilative cooling are mentioned can sometimes also reduce the temperature.
This PWI does not cover waterborne and refrigeration systems.
