This standard specifies the constructional requirements, safety requirements and methods
of test for water dispensers for use as single or multiple delivery points, for domestic
purposes , either to deliver water over 90°C or boiling water alone or in combination with
cold, blended and hot water up to 65-70°C.
The dispensers can be supplied separately (dispensing device) or with a bespoke heating
appliance, consisting of an unit which heats a stored volume of water, heats the water
instantaneously or is a combination of both and any heat source (dispensing unit).
The dispensers are designed to be continuously connected to drinking water installations via
the heating appliance. The conditions of use are given in Table 1.
Where dispensing units have additional water connections details could be found in clause 9.
The design maybe of remote operation and/or designed for use by persons with reduced
mobility or sensory capability.
As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account:
- children playing with the appliance,
- the use of the appliance by very young children, elderly, people with disabilities,
- the use of the appliance by young children without supervision,
- user maintenance by children, including the cleaning of the appliance.
It is recognized that very vulnerable people may have needs beyond the level addressed in
this European Standard.
Provisions to dispense chilled or sparkling water integrated in the dispensing unit, are not
making part of this standard.
Health and quality requirements in accordance to European and national legislation for final
materials in contact with water intended for human consumption are not covered by this
document.
The standard specifies the electric characteristics and requirements, the dimensions, leak
tightness, pressure resistance, hydraulic performance, mechanical strength, endurance,
corrosion resistance of the surface and acoustic characteristics of the product, as well as
sequence of testing with which dispensing units for hot or boiling water including their
components need to comply where applicable.
The tests described in this European Standard are type tests (laboratory tests) and not
quality control or factory production control (FPC) tests carried out during manufacture.
