Currently CEN/TC 251 has a certain working group overlap. Both working groups 1 and 2 contain the representation of health information in their respective scopes. As a way for CEN/TC 251 to take a wider responsibility for its products, a work item on the interaction between the application of working group 1 and 2 standards is suggested.
The proposed work item will aim at a Technical Report describing possible interactions between CEN/TC 251/WG 1 and WG 2 standards. In the proposed work item in order to be practical, focus will be on the study of the concurrent application of the EN 13606 (mainly part 1 and part 3 and conceivable applications of those), EN 12967 (mainly part 1 and 2), and EN 13940 (part 1 and coming part 2) standards. Any results of general applicability will also be reported. Although of relevance, the concurrent use of HL7 and CEN standards will for workload reasons not be included in this proposed initial work item but might be included in future work.
The technical report will include descriptions of any issues found in the analysis and may also include mappings between standards and serve to facilitate the development of implementation guides on how these standards can be used together. A publicly available complementary set of web-based educational resources is another intended outcome of this work item.
