As a result of the Regulation for the eCall in-vehicle systems (IVS) being limited to new vehicle IVS, between the period 2018-2030 a potential market of perhaps 200 million aftermarket eCall devices may come into use. They will be largely unregulated. It is recognised that regulation, based on standards, may be required to control this market and prevent PSAPs being overburdened with false calls. This PWI is requested to establish what CEN deliverables may be required and develop the NWIPs accordingly.
