This document provides a specification for a rider-based eCall system, based on a securely carried smartphone “app” solution. This technical solution is designed for any Category L vehicle.
By the nature of this paradigm, only a simplified version of the MSD is supported.
This document provides determination/confirmation of the aspects of CEN/TS 17249-5 and CEN/TS XXXXX-5 that remain appropriate in the aftermarket, rider-based, eCall paradigm, and provides additional requirements for rider-based aftermarket eCall equipment for use while riding any UNECE Category L vehicle to ensure reliable triggering, appropriateness of carrying and using, and minimisation of false eCalls, specified within the paradigm of being commissioned irrespective of the first sale and first registration of the vehicle, and operating within the paradigm of a securely carried smartphone “app” solution.
This document also provides additional requirements and specifications for the aftermarket provision of a rider-based eCall system via a third-party service provider (TPSP).
NOTE Requirements that are identical to those specified in CEN/TS 17249-5 and CEN/TS XXXXX-5 are, for consistency and maintenance, simply confirmed, rather than the specification text repeated.
For the purposes of the present document, the P2WV ‘L’ categories, as defined in Directive 2002/24/EC, Regulation (EU) No 168/2013, UNECE and as referenced/specified in EN 15722 apply.
