The standard defines a language for expressing postal products (services) in terms of the physical and informational attributes of mail units, product attributes (including events, actions and customer directed information), access rules, rating and payment mechanisms. The standard further provides an implementation of the language in the form of an XML Schema as a template.
The template, while allowing for formalization of description for a very broad variety of postal products, leaves final selection, definition, valuation, implementation and marketing of new products entirely to the discretion of postal operators.
