The objective of the document is to be a first document to be read by people involved in the management of
chemical health and safety risks on site (as safety engineers or occupational hygienists), willing to initiate a risk
management approach regarding inhalation of nano-objects, their aggregates and their agglomerates (NOAAS).
Starting with the principle that those people are not familiar with nanotechnologies; the document will structure
thinking and actions by giving main principles and by connecting to appropriate documents regarding the
situation, inspired from recommendations already published and internationally recognized for manufactured
nanomaterials.
The standard will first help them identify situations:
- where the nano-specific recommendations of this guide are needed (upstream production of materials
containing NOAAs and the downstream use as integration, processing, use and disposal)
- where the nano-specific recommendations of this guide are not needed and shouldn’t be applied (NOAAs
not produced as materials i.e. incidentally generated or atmospheric pollution NOAAs)
Being a quick start guide, this technical specification is intentionally very short and concise.
